Square tube plugs handle equal-sided profiles. Rectangular tube plugs handle everything else: the unequal-sided tubing used in sled base runners, table frames, shelving structures, display fixtures, and any furniture where the tube width and length are different. The plug body press-fits inside the rectangular tube with flexible ribs that grip both the short walls and the long walls simultaneously. One plug seals the tube end, protects the floor, dampens noise, and gives the leg a clean, finished look. The broadest rectangular plug range available: from 10 × 30 mm to 60 × 120 mm.
PE (polyethylene) construction. Press-fit installation with no adhesive, no screws, and no tools beyond an optional rubber mallet. Rectangular tube plugs come in black, grey, and white to match or contrast with the frame finish. across -and-wall combinations cover virtually every rectangular tubing specification in the furniture industry. Plugs for rectangular furniture legs and sled base runners that fit the first time. Rectangular tube end plugs for hollow metal profiles. Sold in multiples of 4.
Rectangular tube plugs are organized by the short-side (width) dimension. Within each width group, multiple lengths are available. Many sizes offer multiple wall thickness ranges to match different tubing specifications. The right rectangular tube plug matches your tube’s width, length, and wall thickness.
10 × 30, 15 × 20, 15 × 30, 15 × 40, 15 × 50 mm. Narrow profiles for lightweight chair sled runners, display fixture frames, and thin rectangular tubing. Wall 1 to 2 mm or 2 to 3 mm depending on size. Black, grey, and white on select sizes.
18 × 30, 20 × 25, 20 × 30, 20 × 40, 20 × 50, 20 × 60 mm. The most common width range for dining chair sled bases, side chair frames, and standard furniture tubing. Multiple wall thickness options at several sizes. Rectangular tube plugs in this width group cover the majority of residential and light commercial chair frames. Black, grey, and white available.
25 × 35, 25 × 40, 25 × 50, 25 × 60, 30 × 40, 30 × 50, 30 × 60, 30 × 70, 30 × 80, 30 × 100, 30 × 110 mm. Standard to heavy-duty commercial furniture, restaurant seating, table frames, and shelving structures. Multiple wall options at popular sizes. Black, grey, and white on most.
40 × 50, 40 × 60, 40 × 80, 40 × 100, 50 × 70, 50 × 80, 50 × 100, 60 × 80, 60 × 100, 60 × 120 mm. Heavy-duty table bases, commercial fixtures, industrial furniture, and architectural structures. Wall thickness ranges up to 4.5 mm for heavy-gauge tubing. Primarily black at these larger sizes.
For equal-sided profiles, use square tube plugs (13 × 13 to 100 × 100 mm). For round profiles, use round tube plugs. For smooth-fit rectangular plugs on wide profiles, see smooth fit rectangular tube plugs. For rectangular plugs with integrated PA6 pad, see rectangular tube plugs with pad. For custom sizes, contact Business Solutions.
Three measurements: width (short side), length (long side), and wall thickness. All three must match for the plug to fit. If both sides are equal, you have a square tube and need square tube plugs instead.
Use calipers or a ruler across each side of the rectangular tube, outside edge to outside edge. Record the short side (width) and the long side (length). Always list the shorter dimension first when selecting rectangular tube plugs.
Use calipers at the tube end, or calculate: (outside dimension minus inside dimension) / 2. Check both the short and long walls because some rectangular tubing has different wall thicknesses on different sides.
Width, length, and wall thickness must all fall within the listed range. A 20 × 40 mm plug sized for 1 to 2 mm wall will not grip properly in a 20 × 40 mm tube with 3 mm walls. Use the 2 to 3 mm wall version instead.
Same press-fit installation as square and round tube plugs, with attention to orientation. Rectangular tube plugs must enter the tube with the width and length aligned correctly. The plug will not fit if rotated 90°.
The same four problems as square and round tube plugs, adapted for rectangular geometry. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends protective measures on all furniture legs, and rectangular tube plugs provide that protection on hollow rectangular metal legs and sled base runners.
An open rectangular tube end puts four sharp metal edges and four sharp corners on the floor. On sled base chairs, the runner ends are the primary floor contact points, and unprotected metal runners scratch, gouge, and mark smooth, hard floors with every push and pull. The plugs replace the sharp metal with a smooth, flat PE head that distributes weight across the full rectangular area. Unlike leaving metal edges unprotected, the plug eliminates the damage at the source. For dedicated PA6 scratch protection, apply rectangular self-adhesive furniture pads to the plug head.
An open rectangular tube collects moisture, debris, dust, and insects. On steel tubing, trapped moisture causes internal corrosion. The plugs seal the opening completely. The ribs grip all four walls, and the flat head covers the entire cross-section. On sled base runners that sit at floor level, the tube opening faces outward and is especially vulnerable to mopping water, spilled liquids, and tracked-in debris. Sealing with rectangular tube plugs prevents all of these from entering the tube interior.
Hollow rectangular tubes resonate and amplify contact noise. Sled base runners scraping across smooth, hard floors generate noise that multiplies across a room full of chairs. The plugs fill the tube opening with PE, absorbing vibration. The flat PE head replaces the metal-to-floor contact with a quieter surface. Press-fit rectangular tube plugs that silence the rattle and reduce scraping noise in restaurants, cafeterias, offices, and schools.
An open rectangular tube end exposes the hollow interior, any internal rust, weld marks, or manufacturing residue. The plugs cover the opening with a clean, flat PE head. On sled base chairs, the runner ends are visible at floor level and face outward toward the viewer. A plugged end signals a complete, professional product. Available in black, grey, and white to match or complement any frame finish. Rectangular tubing plugs PE that finish every exposed end.
Same PE (polyethylene) and flexible ribbed grip used across the entire tube plug range. Rectangular tube plugs are molded from a single piece of PE with no joints, seams, or separate components. The rectangular profile requires precise geometry on all four walls, with ribs engineered to grip both the narrow walls and the wide walls.
The flat head covers the full rectangular cross-section. All four edges and all four corners are protected. The PE surface provides low-friction floor contact on smooth, hard floors. On sled base runners, the rectangular head creates a broad, smooth contact patch that distributes the runner load evenly.
The ribs run along all four interior walls. On rectangular profiles, the ribs on the short walls and the ribs on the long walls may compress to different depths because the wall dimensions are different. Each rib compresses independently during insertion. No adhesive, no screws, no tools beyond an optional rubber mallet.
If your furniture has hollow rectangular legs or sled base runners, here is how rectangular tube plugs compare to the alternatives.
Square tube plugs have equal-sided geometry. They will not fit a rectangular opening: the plug gaps on the long sides and binds on the short sides. Always match plug shape to tube shape. Rectangular tube plugs for rectangular tubes. Square for square.
Smooth fit rectangular tube plugs are designed for wide profiles where standard ribbed plugs may not seat evenly. Available in 15 × 80, 20 × 80, 20 × 100, and 25 × 100 mm in PA (polyamide). If your rectangular tube is in one of those specific sizes and you need the smoother insertion that PA provides, smooth fit is the right choice. For all other rectangular sizes, standard rectangular tube plugs with PE ribs are the correct product.
Rectangular tube plugs with pad have an integrated PA6 pad for built-in floor protection. Available in 13.8 × 27.5 and 20 × 30 mm. If your tube matches one of those sizes and you need PA6 floor protection without a separate adhesive pad, the pad version combines both functions. For all other sizes, use standard rectangular tube plugs and add a rectangular self-adhesive furniture pad for floor protection.
Open rectangular tubes expose sharp edges, collect debris, allow corrosion, amplify noise, and look unfinished. On sled base runners, open tube ends at floor level are especially vulnerable to water, debris, and impact. The plugs solve all five problems in one press-fit step.
Sled base chairs are one of the most common applications for rectangular tube plugs. The sled runner is a horizontal rectangular tube that contacts the floor along its bottom surface, with the open ends facing outward. These open ends need plugs for floor protection, moisture sealing, noise reduction, and appearance.
Most sled base dining chairs use rectangular tubing in the 15 × 30 to 25 × 50 mm range. Commercial and conference chairs often use 20 × 40 or 25 × 50 mm runners. The width (short side) typically matches the chair leg width for a seamless transition. Rectangular tube plugs in these sizes are the most frequently ordered items in the rectangular range.
The plug seals the runner end, but the runner bottom is the primary floor contact surface. For complete sled base protection, apply rectangular self-adhesive furniture pads along the runner bottom. The plug protects the end. The pad protects the length. Together they provide full sled base coverage. For rough hard floors like textured tile, furniture slides with ABS surfaces handle the texture better.
Match the plug shape to your tube shape. Every shape uses the same PE construction and ribbed grip mechanism.
10 × 30 to 60 × 120 mm. Black, grey, white.
Anywhere hollow rectangular tubing has open ends that need finishing, sealing, and floor protection. These are the standard solution for the broadest range of rectangular tubing sizes in furniture, fixtures, and structural applications.
Sled base dining chairs, kitchen stools, side tables, coffee tables, TV stands, bed frames, and desks with rectangular metal tubing. The 15 × 30 to 30 × 60 mm range covers most residential applications. Rectangular tube plugs protect hardwood, tile, laminate, and vinyl from the sharp edges of bare metal rectangular tubing. For additional floor protection, pair with rectangular self-adhesive furniture pads.
Restaurant seating, office desks, conference tables, retail fixtures, industrial workbenches, shelving systems, and architectural structures. The larger sizes (40 × 80 to 60 × 120 mm) handle heavy commercial and industrial rectangular tubing. Available in bulk for manufacturing runs and facility-wide fit-outs. For commercial pricing, visit Business Solutions.
These plugs require the same minimal maintenance as square and round tube plugs. Check periodically that the plug remains seated flush with the tube edge on all four sides. On sled base chairs that get pushed and pulled across floors daily, inspect the runner-end plugs every 3 to 6 months. The constant lateral movement can loosen plugs over time. On static furniture and fixtures, an annual visual check is enough.
The PE surface does not stain, discolor, or absorb cleaning products. A quick wipe with a damp cloth keeps the plug head clean. These plugs are sold in multiples of 4, so keeping spares on hand for commercial environments is practical. If a plug is damaged or no longer grips firmly, replace it. On heavy-duty sizes, inspect the plug head corners for wear from floor contact.
Rectangular Self-Adhesive Furniture Pads: PA6 pads for scratch protection. Apply to the plug head or along the sled base runner.
Rectangular Self-Adhesive Furniture Glides: PA6 on ABS platform for the best glide performance on rectangular legs.
Smooth Fit Rectangular Tube Plugs: PA construction for wide profiles (15 × 80 to 25 × 100 mm).
Rectangular Tube Plugs with Pad: integrated PA6 pad (13.8 × 27.5 and 20 × 30 mm).
Angled Rectangular Tube Plugs: for splayed or tilted rectangular legs.

Measure the outside dimension of both the short side and the long side in millimeters. Then measure the wall thickness with calipers at the tube end. You need all three measurements: width, length, and wall thickness. A tube measuring 20 mm wide, 40 mm long, with 1.5 mm walls needs the 20 × 40 / 1 to 2 mm plug. Always list the shorter dimension first.
The plug will not seat properly. Square plugs have equal sides, so they gap along the longer dimension and compress along the shorter. The retention ribs cannot engage evenly, and the plug will either fall out under vibration or wedge at an angle. Use rectangular tube plugs matched to the exact tube opening dimensions for full-perimeter rib engagement and a secure press fit.
60 × 120 mm with 2.5 to 4.5 mm wall thickness. The 31-size range covers from 10 × 30 mm up to 60 × 120 mm. For sizes outside this range, contact Business Solutions for custom production.
Measure the tube wall with calipers at the open end. The outside dimension tells you which plug size you need. The wall thickness tells you which variant within that size. Some rectangular tube sizes are manufactured in multiple wall thicknesses (1.0, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0 mm are common). Each wall thickness requires a different rib profile for a secure press fit. The product variations list all available wall thickness options for each size.
Yes. Sled base chairs typically use rectangular tubing for the runners that contact the floor. Match the plug to the runner tube dimensions. For sled bases on smooth, hard floors, apply rectangular self-adhesive furniture pads to the plug head for PA6 scratch protection along the full runner length.
