Overview

Conical Head Round Tube Plugs

Standard flat head tube plugs seal and finish the tube end, but they add nothing to the look. Conical head round tube plugs give hollow round furniture legs a tapered, raised profile that turns a plain tube end into a deliberate design detail. The cone rises from the tube edge to a smooth central peak, adding visual depth to chair backs, exposed frame ends, fixture tops, and any tube end that is visible to the user. Decorative tube plugs for furniture where appearance matters as much as function.

Same PE construction and flexible ribbed body as the flat head range. Same press-fit installation. The only difference is the head: a tapered cone instead of a flat disc. How to Measure Your Tube

Same two-measurement process as all tube plugs: outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness. Conical head round tube plugs require Ø 30 mm OD with 3 to 4 mm wall thickness. If your tube does not match these specifications, check the other head styles for a compatible size.

Step 1. Measure the OD

Use calipers or a ruler across the widest point of the tube opening. Outside edge to outside edge. The OD must be Ø 30 mm for these plugs to fit.

Step 2. Measure the wall thickness

Use calipers at the tube end, or calculate: (OD minus ID) / 2. The wall thickness must be between 3 mm and 4 mm for the ribs to grip properly.

Step 3. Confirm both match

Ø 30 mm OD and 3 to 4 mm wall. If your tube is Ø 30 mm but with 1 to 2 mm walls, the conical head plug will not grip. Use a flat head plug sized for Ø 30 mm / 1.5 to 2 mm wall instead.

Non-floor-contact application: since these plugs are designed for visible, non-floor-contact tube ends, measure the tube that faces outward (chair back uprights, exposed frame tops, display fixture ends) rather than the floor-contact legs. Floor-contact legs are better served by flat head plugs or pad slot plugs.

How to Install

Same press-fit installation as all our tube plugs. The conical head does not change the process. A rubber mallet is recommended for the 3 to 4 mm wall thickness range, as the fit is snug. Conical head round tube plugs install in seconds per tube end.

  • Clean, dry tube ends free of burrs or sharp edges
Installation steps
  1. Inspect the tube end. Remove any burrs, sharp edges, or debris from the inside of the tube opening. A clean, smooth edge ensures the ribs seat properly.
  2. Align the conical head round tube plug with the tube opening. The tapered cone faces outward. The ribbed body faces into the tube.
  3. Press the plug into the tube by hand. The flexible ribs compress as the plug enters, then expand against the inner wall.
  4. Tap the plug head gently with a rubber mallet until the base of the cone sits flush with the tube edge. Do not strike hard enough to deform the cone tip.
Removal: pry gently from one edge with a flat-head screwdriver or push from the opposite end of the tube if accessible. The PE body flexes without breaking. Conical head round tube plugs can often be reinstalled if the cone and ribs are undamaged.

What Conical Head Round Tube Plugs Solve

The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends protective measures on all furniture legs, and these plugs contribute by sealing the tube end even on non-floor-contact applications.

Decorative finish

The primary reason to choose conical over flat. The tapered profile adds geometric interest to exposed tube ends. On retail fixtures, restaurant seating, hospitality furniture, and showroom displays, visible tube ends communicate design intention rather than incomplete assembly. Conical head round tube plugs turn functional hardware into a finishing detail. The smooth PE cone takes the same black finish as the rest of the plug body. Tube sealing and moisture protection

Same sealed end as flat head plugs. The conical profile does not affect the seal. Moisture, debris, and insects are kept out of the tube interior. Not recommended for floor contact

The tapered cone concentrates floor contact at the center peak instead of distributing weight across a flat surface. For floor-contact legs, use flat head round tube plugs that spread load evenly. For floor contact with dedicated scratch protection, use pad slot round tube plugs with a PA6 pad insert. Conical head round tube plugs are designed for the visible tube ends that do not touch the floor.

vs. Flat Head (Standard)

Flat head round tube plugs sit flush with the tube end. No protrusion, no visual accent. Conical head round tube plugs add a tapered peak that rises 6 mm above the tube edge. Choose flat for floor-contact legs and utilitarian applications. Choose conical for visible, decorative tube ends where the tapered profile adds design value.

vs. Domed Head

Domed head round tube plugs have a rounded, bubble-like curve. Softer, more organic appearance. Conical head round tube plugs have a sharper, more angular geometric profile. The cone is more modern and architectural. The dome is more traditional and subtle. Domed heads are available in Ø 16 and Ø 26 mm. Conical is Ø 30 mm only.

vs. Half-Sphere Head

Half-sphere head round tube plugs have a full hemisphere profile for maximum decorative effect. The half-sphere protrudes more than the cone and creates a bold, rounded endpoint. Conical head round tube plugs are more restrained. The taper is subtle enough to add interest without dominating. Half-sphere is available in from Ø 16 to Ø 30 mm.

vs. Anti-Slip TPE

Anti-slip TPE round tube plugs have a rubber head that grips the floor. Functional, not decorative. Conical head round tube plugs are decorative, not functional on floors. On the same piece of furniture, you might use anti-slip on the floor-contact legs and conical on the visible back uprights.

vs. Pad Slot

Pad slot round tube plugs have a recessed channel that accepts a PA6 pad for floor-specific scratch protection. Functional, flat-profile design. Conical head round tube plugs offer no pad slot and are not designed for floor contact. For the same piece of furniture, pad slot plugs handle the floor-contact legs while these plugs finish the visible, non-floor-contact ends.

Will the conical profile interfere with furniture stacking?

It can. The raised cone protrudes approximately 6 mm above the tube edge. If furniture stacks by nesting tube ends, the cone may prevent flush stacking. Check that the protrusion does not interfere with your stacking geometry. For stackable furniture, flat head plugs are the better choice.

Is the installation the same as standard flat head plugs?

Yes. Same PE body with flexible internal ribs. Same press-fit installation: align, push, seat flush. Same chemical resistance, UV stability, and impact resistance. The only difference is the head profile. A rubber mallet is recommended for the 3 to 4 mm wall thickness as the fit is snug.
