Square legs that drift are usually carrying something you'd rather not see move. Parsons tables, display units, counter stools that have turned at an angle by the end of the day.
A round non-slip glide on a square leg grips in the middle and leaves the corners free. This one grips corner to corner. NR and CR rubber on a zinc-plated tubular rivet, tapped into solid wood with a rubber mallet, with a notch that keeps the square face lined up with the leg.
Five square sizes, 7/8" x 7/8" (23 x 23 mm) to 3" x 3" (75 x 75 mm). Solid wood legs only.
Same measurement process as the Smooth Glide range. Square legs look simple, but tapered designs are wider at the top and narrower at the bottom.
The only measurement that matters is the flat face at the very bottom of the leg. With measuring takes 30 seconds.
Step 1: Flip or tilt the furniture
Lay the piece on its side or turn it upside down. You need full access to the flat bottom face of each leg where the square non-slip nail-on furniture glide will sit.
Step 2: Measure one side
Use a ruler across one edge of the flat base, in millimeters. Both sides should be equal on a true square leg. If the sides are noticeably different, the leg is rectangular. Use rectangular non-slip nail-on furniture glides instead.
Step 3: Match to the size chart
Select the square non-slip nail-on furniture glide whose range includes your measurement. If you're on a boundary, go with the smaller size so the glide stays inside the leg footprint.
Tapered square legs: always measure at the very bottom. Many modern and mid-century designs taper significantly. The base is always smaller than the top. A leg that measures 1-9/16" (40 mm) at mid-height but 1-1/4" (32 mm) at the base needs the 1-1/8" x 1-1/8" (28 x 28 mm) glide, not the 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" (38 x 38 mm).

Corner alignment matters: on a round glide, slight rotation has no effect. On square non-slip nail-on furniture glides, even a small rotation exposes one or more corners. The anti-rotation notch prevents post-installation rotation, but the initial strike must seat the glide in alignment. Line up all four edges before you strike.Removal and replacement: Pry gently from one edge with a flat-head screwdriver or putty knife. The tubular rivet separates cleanly because it parts fibers rather than boring them out. Fibers spring back when removed. A new glide seats firmly in the same hole with full holding force. You can swap to Smooth Glide or carpet slides in the same hole if your needs change.
The NR+CR rubber compound in square non-slip nail-on furniture glides isn't commodity rubber. Natural rubber (NR) provides high-friction grip. Chloroprene rubber (CR) adds UV resistance, chemical stability, and prevents the staining that cheap rubber causes on light-colored hardwood.
How the grip works on square legs
NR+CR rubber has a high coefficient of friction against smooth hard surfaces. The rubber deforms microscopically into the floor's surface texture and resists lateral movement.

What NR+CR won't do
The CR component prevents the chemical staining that pure natural rubber causes on polyurethane-finished hardwood, light-colored vinyl, and sealed stone. NR+CR won't yellow, harden, or crack under normal indoor conditions.

NR+CR rubber is chemically stable and non-staining on all sealed floor finishes. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends furniture protectors on every leg as a primary hardwood maintenance step.
