But on visible, non-floor-contact tube ends where appearance matters, a flat plug adds nothing to the look. Domed oval tube plugs replace the flat head with a smooth, rounded dome that curves outward from the oval tube edge. How to Measure Your Tube

Same three measurements as all oval tube plugs: short axis (width), long axis (length), and wall thickness. Domed oval tube plugs are available in 15 × 40, 20 × 40, and 25 × 50 mm. If your tube does not match one of these three sizes, check standard flat head oval tube plugs for a compatible size.

Step 1. Measure the short axis

Use calipers across the narrowest point of the oval opening, outside edge to outside edge. The short axis must be 15, 20, or 25 mm for domed oval tube plugs.

Step 2. Measure the long axis

Use calipers across the widest point. The long axis must be 40 or 50 mm. Match the short and long axis combination to one of the three available sizes.

Step 3. Measure the wall thickness

Use calipers at the tube end. The 15 × 40 requires 1 to 1.5 mm wall. The 20 × 40 and 25 × 50 require 1.5 to 2 mm wall. The thicker walls on the larger sizes support the heavier furniture they typically appear on.

Non-floor-contact application: since domed oval tube plugs are designed for visible, non-floor-contact tube ends, measure the tube that faces outward (chair back uprights, armrest ends, exposed frame tops) rather than the floor-contact legs. For floor-contact legs on the same furniture, use flat head oval tube plugs.

How to Install

Same press-fit installation as standard oval tube plugs. The domed head does not change the process. Align the short axis to the short axis and the long axis to the long axis, then press in. The dome faces outward. Domed oval tube plugs press in by hand at both available wall thickness ranges.

Installation steps
  1. Inspect the tube end. Remove any burrs, sharp edges, or debris from the inside.
  2. Align the domed oval tube plug with the tube opening. Match short axis to short axis, long axis to long axis. The dome faces outward. The plug body faces into the tube.
  3. Press the plug into the tube by hand. The flexible walls compress as the plug enters, then expand against the curved interior.
  4. If needed, tap the dome gently with a rubber mallet. Tap the base ring around the dome, not the dome peak itself, to avoid deforming the rounded profile.
Removal: pry gently from one end of the long axis with a flat-head screwdriver. The PE body flexes without breaking. Domed oval tube plugs can often be reinstalled if the dome and body are undamaged.
