Overview

Pad Slot Round Tube Plugs

Standard tube plugs seal the tube and provide basic PE floor contact. That is enough for many applications, but it is not enough for hardwood, engineered wood, or any floor where scratches show. Pad slot round tube plugs add a recessed channel in the head that accepts a PA6 needle-punched fiber pad. The plug seals the tube. The PA6 pad protects the floor. Two functions in one press-fit product. The PA6 pad is not included. It is purchased separately and pressed into the recessed channel. The same PA6 surface used in all our furniture glides and self-adhesive pads, integrated directly into the plug head instead of applied separately. These PA6 pad tube plugs for furniture are also referred to as pad slot furniture leg plugs, floor protection tube plugs, or tube plugs with floor protection.

: Ø 22 mm (1.5 to 2 mm wall) and Ø 28 mm (1 to 2 mm wall). Black and grey. Same PE body and flexible ribbed grip as the flat head range. Same press-fit installation. Pad slot round tube plugs are tube plugs with a floor protection channel built in. Sold in packs of 4.

Available Sizes: 2 Pad Slot Round Tube Plugs

Pad slot round tube plugs are available in two sizes that cover the most common chair and stool tubing specifications. Both sizes include the recessed PA6 pad channel in the head. The PA6 pad insert is purchased separately. See the pad size links below. The right pad slot plug matches your tube’s outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness.

Ø 22 mm

Wall thickness: 1.5 to 2 mm. The smaller size for lightweight dining chairs, side chairs, and office seating with hollow round legs. Available in black and grey. PA6 pad insert not included. Use a Ø 14 mm round furniture pad for the Ø 28 mm plug.

Ø 28 mm

Wall thickness: 1 to 2 mm. The larger size for heavier commercial chairs, bar stools, restaurant seating, and institutional furniture. Available in black and grey. PA6 pad insert not included. Use a Ø 20 mm round furniture pad.

PA6 pad sold separately. The plug body ships without a pad insert. Order the matching pad alongside the plug: Ø 14 mm pad for Ø 22 mm plugs · Ø 20 mm pad for Ø 28 mm plugs.

For other diameters with basic PE floor contact, flat head round tube plugs come in from Ø 10 mm to Ø 80 mm. For anti-slip grip instead of sliding, anti-slip TPE round tube plugs are available in Ø 28 mm. For custom pad slot sizes, contact Business Solutions.

How to Measure Your Tube

Same two-measurement process as all tube plugs: outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness. Pad slot round tube plugs require either Ø 22 mm (1.5 to 2 mm wall) or Ø 28 mm (1 to 2 mm wall). If your tube does not match these specifications, use a flat head plug and add a separate self-adhesive pad for floor protection.

Step 1. Measure the OD

Use calipers or a ruler across the widest point of the tube opening. Outside edge to outside edge. The OD must be Ø 22 mm or Ø 28 mm for pad slot round tube plugs to fit.

Step 2. Measure the wall thickness

Use calipers at the tube end, or calculate: (OD minus ID) / 2. Ø 22 mm requires 1.5 to 2 mm wall. Ø 28 mm requires 1 to 2 mm wall.

Step 3. Confirm both match

Both OD and wall thickness must fall within the listed range. A pad slot round tube plug sized for Ø 22 mm / 1.5 to 2 mm wall will not grip properly in a Ø 22 mm tube with 1 mm walls.

Floor-contact application: Pad slot round tube plugs are designed for floor-contact legs where the PA6 pad needs to touch the floor surface. Measure the legs that contact the floor. For visible, non-floor-contact tube ends on the same furniture, use flat head plugs or a decorative head style.

How to Install

Same press-fit installation as all our tube plugs. The pad slot head does not change the process. Install the PA6 pad into the channel before pressing the plug into the tube. Pad slot round tube plugs press in by hand at both available wall thicknesses. A rubber mallet provides extra seating force if needed.

What you need
  • The correct pad slot round tube plug matched to your OD (Ø 22 or Ø 28 mm)
  • The matching PA6 pad insert: Ø 14 mm for Ø 22 mm plug, Ø 20 mm for Ø 28 mm plug (sold separately)
  • A rubber mallet (optional, for snug fits)
  • Clean, dry tube ends free of burrs or sharp edges
Installation steps
  1. Inspect the tube end. Remove any burrs, sharp edges, or debris from the inside of the tube opening.
  2. Press the PA6 pad insert into the recessed channel. It should sit flat with the fiber surface facing outward (toward the floor).
  3. Align the plug with the tube opening. The PA6 pad faces outward. The ribbed body faces into the tube.
  4. Press the plug into the tube by hand. The flexible ribs compress as the plug enters, then expand against the inner wall. Push until the head sits flush with the tube edge.
  5. Set the furniture back down. The PA6 pad contacts the floor immediately. No cure time needed.
Pad replacement: when the PA6 pad wears, remove it from the recessed channel, clean the slot, and press a new pad insert in. The PE plug body stays in the tube. You replace the wear surface, not the entire plug. This makes pad slot round tube plugs more economical over time than full plug replacement. Order replacement pads: Ø 14 mm for Ø 22 mm plug · Ø 20 mm for Ø 28 mm plug.

What Pad Slot Round Tube Plugs Solve

Every benefit of a standard tube plug, plus dedicated hard-floor scratch protection from the same PA6 fiber used across our entire glide and pad range. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) recommends protective pads on all furniture legs as a first line of defense for hardwood. Pad slot round tube plugs provide that integrated PA6 protection on hollow metal legs, with the pad ordered separately and seated in the channel.

Hard-floor scratch protection

The primary advantage over standard flat head plugs. When a PA6 pad is seated in the channel, it provides the same low-friction, scratch-free floor contact as our self-adhesive furniture glides and pads. On hardwood, engineered wood, laminate, vinyl, tile, and polished concrete, the PA6 surface moves quietly without scratching, scuffing, or marking. Unlike leaving metal or bare PE on smooth, hard floors, the PA6 pad prevents damage at the source.

Tube sealing and moisture protection

Same sealed end as every other plug in the range. The pad slot design does not compromise the seal. Moisture, debris, and insects are kept out of the tube interior. On steel tubing, this prevents internal corrosion. Pad slot round tube plugs provide smooth, hard floor protection on the outside and corrosion protection on the inside.

Noise reduction

PA6 is quieter than PE on smooth, hard floors. The needle-punched fiber absorbs contact noise that the harder PE surface transmits. In restaurants, cafeterias, offices, and conference rooms where chairs move constantly, pad slot round tube plugs with PA6 inserts reduce both scraping noise and the metallic ring that hollow tubes amplify.

Integrated channel, replaceable pad

The PA6 pad sits in a recessed channel that holds it mechanically. It cannot shift or fall out the way a self-adhesive pad applied to a flat plug head can. When the pad wears, replace just the pad insert. The plug body stays in the tube. The channel provides a more secure seat for the pad than adhesive alone.

Materials and Construction

Three components. The PE body press-fits inside the tube. The recessed head channel holds the PA6 pad. The PA6 pad (sold separately) contacts the floor. Pad slot round tube plugs combine proven tube-sealing engineering with the floor protection material used across our entire product range.

PA6 Needle-Punched Pad Insert Floor contact surface. Sold separately

The same PA6 needle-punched polyamide 6 fiber used in all our furniture glides and self-adhesive pads. Fibers mechanically interlocked by needle-punching, not laminated with adhesive. Low friction, chemically inert, deflects debris instead of trapping it. Compatible with every smooth, hard floor: hardwood, tile, laminate, vinyl, polished concrete, marble and granite (polished), cork, and linoleum. Order separately: Ø 14 mm for Ø 22 mm plug · Ø 20 mm for Ø 28 mm plug.

  • Same PA6 fiber as our furniture glides and self-adhesive pads
  • Low coefficient of friction: quiet, smooth sliding on smooth, hard floors
  • Chemically inert: will not react with floor sealers, wax, or cleaning products
  • Replaceable: worn pad inserts can be swapped without removing the plug
  • Not included with the plug. Order separately
PE Body with Recessed Head Channel Plug body and pad retention

The PE body is identical to the flat head range, with one modification: the head has a recessed channel molded into it that holds the PA6 pad. The channel walls retain the pad mechanically, which is more secure than adhesive alone. The same PE compound resists UV, chemicals, moisture, and impact across all our plug products. Available in black and grey.

  • Recessed channel holds the PA6 pad mechanically
  • Pad cannot shift or detach during use when properly seated
  • Same PE body as flat head: UV resistant, moisture resistant, impact resistant
  • Black and grey
Flexible Internal Ribs Tube grip mechanism

Identical rib structure to the flat head range. The ribs compress during insertion and expand against the inner tube wall for a secure friction fit. No adhesive, no screws, no tools beyond an optional rubber mallet. Pad slot round tube plugs hold securely in the tube while the PA6 pad handles the floor.

  • Multiple ribs for distributed grip along the tube interior
  • Each rib compresses independently to adapt to wall thickness variations
  • Friction fit holds under vibration, movement, and sustained load
  • No adhesive required for tube installation

Pad Slot Round Tube Plugs vs. Other Options

If your hollow metal furniture legs contact smooth, hard floors and you need scratch protection, here is how pad slot round tube plugs compare to every other option.

vs. Flat Head Round Tube Plugs

Flat head plugs provide basic PE floor contact. PE is smoother than bare metal, but it is harder than PA6 and provides less scratch protection on finished hardwood and engineered floors. Pad slot round tube plugs accept a PA6 fiber pad in a recessed channel for dedicated hard-floor protection. If your floors are concrete, industrial tile, or outdoor surfaces where scratches are not a concern, flat head plugs are sufficient. If your floors are hardwood, laminate, vinyl, or polished surfaces, pad slot plugs with a PA6 insert are the better choice.

vs. Flat Head Plug Plus Self-Adhesive Pad

You can apply a round self-adhesive pad to the flat head of a standard plug. This works, but the adhesive bond between the pad and the PE head is the weak point. Under lateral movement, the pad can peel or shift. Pad slot round tube plugs hold the PA6 pad in a recessed channel mechanically. The pad cannot shift or peel because the channel walls retain it from all sides.

vs. Self-Adhesive Furniture Glides

Self-adhesive furniture glides bond PA6 on an ABS platform directly to the leg base. They work on solid and hollow legs. Pad slot round tube plugs are specifically for hollow round tubing. The advantage of pad slot plugs is the combined tube-sealing and floor-protection function. The advantage of self-adhesive glides is the wider size range and the rigid ABS platform.

vs. Anti-Slip TPE Round Tube Plugs

Anti-slip TPE plugs grip the floor to prevent sliding. Pad slot round tube plugs with a PA6 insert move smoothly to allow easy movement. Opposite floor behaviors. Choose pad slot for furniture that needs to move quietly on smooth, hard floors. Choose anti-slip for furniture that needs to stay in place.

Floor Compatibility

The PA6 pad in pad slot round tube plugs protects every smooth, hard floor type. PA6 is chemically inert and will not react with floor sealers, wax, or cleaning products.

Hardwood: solid and engineered, all species
Parquet, bamboo, reclaimed wood
Laminate: all types and AC ratings
Luxury vinyl: LVP, LVT, sheet vinyl

Where People Use These Plugs

Anywhere Ø 22 mm or Ø 28 mm hollow round furniture legs contact smooth, hard floors and scratch protection matters. Pad slot round tube plugs are the integrated solution for tube sealing plus a PA6 floor protection channel in one press-fit product. Order the matching pad separately.

Residential

Dining chairs on hardwood and engineered floors. Kitchen chairs on tile and laminate. Bar stools on vinyl. Any metal chair with hollow round legs on a floor where scratches show. Pad slot round tube plugs seal the tube end and provide a PA6 channel for floor protection in one step. Pair with domed head plugs or half-sphere head plugs on the visible back uprights for a complete finishing solution.

Commercial

Restaurant seating on hardwood, tile, and polished concrete. Hotel dining chairs. Office seating on luxury vinyl. Conference room chairs on laminate. Any commercial environment where metal chairs move on finished hard floors hundreds of times daily. Pad slot round tube plugs are available in bulk for commercial fit-outs. For commercial pricing, visit Business Solutions. The replaceable PA6 pad means you service the floor-contact surface without removing the plug from the tube.

Maintenance and Inspection

Check the PA6 pad surface every few months for embedded grit. A quick wipe with a damp cloth removes anything that has collected. The PA6 fiber deflects most debris, but sand and gravel tracked in from outside can lodge in any floor-contact surface. On commercial seating that sees heavy daily use, inspect every 3 to 6 months. On residential furniture, an annual check is enough.

When the PA6 pad shows visible wear grooves or the fiber has compressed noticeably, replace the pad insert. The PE plug body stays in the tube. Keeping spare pad inserts on hand is practical for any commercial environment. Order replacements: Ø 14 mm for Ø 22 mm plugs · Ø 20 mm for Ø 28 mm plugs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PA6 pad in the slot and how does it protect floors?

The PA6 pad is the same needle-punched polyamide 6 fiber used in all our furniture glides and self-adhesive pads. It sits in a recessed channel in the plug head and contacts the floor directly. PA6 provides low-friction, scratch-free movement on hardwood, tile, laminate, vinyl, and stone. Unlike the flat PE head on standard round tube plugs, the PA6 pad is specifically engineered for hard-floor protection. The pad is sold separately and pressed into the channel before use.

Is the PA6 pad included with the plug?

No. The pad slot round tube plug ships without a pad insert. The PA6 pad is purchased separately. Use a Ø 14 mm round furniture pad for the Ø 22 mm plug, and a Ø 20 mm round furniture pad for the Ø 28 mm plug. Press the pad into the channel with the fiber surface facing outward before installing the plug into the tube.

Can I replace the PA6 pad when it wears out without replacing the whole plug?

Yes. The PA6 pad sits in a recessed slot and can be replaced independently. Remove the worn pad, clean the channel, and press a new pad insert into the slot. The PE plug body stays in the tube. This makes pad slot round tube plugs more economical over the long term than replacing entire plugs when the floor-contact surface wears.

How do these plugs compare to using a standard plug plus a separate self-adhesive pad?

These plugs hold the pad in a recessed channel mechanically. The pad cannot shift, peel, or fall off because it is retained by the channel walls. A separate self-adhesive pad applied to a flat head plug relies on adhesive alone, which can peel under lateral movement.

Why are only Ø 22 mm and Ø 28 mm available?

These two diameters cover the most common commercial and residential chair tubing. Ø 22 mm handles lightweight dining chairs and office seating. Ø 28 mm handles heavier commercial chairs and bar stools. For other diameters, use flat head round tube plugs and add a round self-adhesive furniture pad for floor protection.

Do these plugs slide or grip?

They slide. The PA6 pad has a low coefficient of friction, the same surface used in all our furniture glides and pads. Pad slot round tube plugs are designed for smooth, quiet movement on smooth, hard floors with scratch protection. If you need grip instead of sliding, use anti-slip round tube plugs.
